KROSSOVER

Krossover + Team Sports = #Morewins

Krossover developed its Intelligence sports video hosting and analytics platform to provide coaches and athletes with a free game film exchange service and affordable play-by-play game breakdowns, stats, and team and player analytics – to help teams win more games.

The platform serves three audiences:

• Coaches can get game breakdowns and stats within 12-48 hours
• Athletes have profiles to showcase their highlight reels, stats, and vital statistics, to share with family, fans, and recruiters
• Indexers are Krossover staffers who break the games down

Coach Activity Flow

In 2013 Krossover undertook development of a new platform "V2" for Intelligence, upgrading both the codebase and the user experience. As product designer for Web and native mobile, I translated "V1" features to the new platform, working closely with my teammates – UX research, product, visual, engineering, QA – to add functionality and improve the UI.

Key projects:

• Breakdown filtering: When viewing a game breakdown, coaches can filter plays to quickly isolate key scenarios
• Telestrations: An app within the app, telestrating enables coaches to draw on the video, highlighting events with feedback for their players
• Shot Charts: An interactive arena enables coaches to filter and analyze shots taken by both teams

Until the addition of telestrations functionality Krossover's Coach iPad app was a scaled-up version of the iPhone app. While designing shot charts, which see heavier use on tablet than smartphone, I started to expand upon the design to take advantage of the tablet real estate.

While focusing on continually building out functionality for the new platform, I also contributed to a redesign of the Krossover Athlete experience. I managed a Jr. UX Architect, whose primary work involved improving the user experience for the Krossover indexer audience, with a view to augmenting indexer throughput and accuracy.

The Krossover engineering team was reorganized into smaller, audience-focused Agile teams early in 2014. We hired a UX Researcher around the same time. As both UX lead and a former project manager, I helped to redefine and streamline design execution to best support Krossover's engineering workflow, while working closely with our researcher toward a more complete articulation of our audiences and their goals and activities.
